PSDRF Supports Malaria Response in Northern Botswana

Business Botswana, through the Private Sector Disaster Response Fund (PSDRF), donated 5,000 units of first-line malaria treatment to Chobe District Council, Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital and Okavango District Council.
The donation comes at a critical time as malaria continues to affect communities across the northern districts.
In Okavango, Deputy Council Secretary, Mr Michael Israel said the district has recorded 1,038 malaria cases and 4 deaths, noting that the donation will strengthen the district’s response and help protect communities.
In Chobe, Council Chairperson Hon Johane Chenjekwa highlighted the impact of heavy rains and stagnant water on mosquito breeding, while noting the district’s recent loss of a malaria patient from Pandamatenga.
In Ngamiland, Deputy Council Secretary for Primary Health Care, Dr Sandra Maripe, said , "Ngamiland, being a malaria endemic area, continues to record a high numaber of malaria cases. this donation will ensure that facilities are well equipped to provide access to malaria."
PSDRF Board Chairperson Mr Butler Phirie thanked the private sector for making the intervention possible:“When businesses pool their resources, we are able to make a meaningful contribution and support communities where the need is greatest.”
